Itinerary:

Welcome to our 14 days Jewish tour from Casablanca, a city with a French colonial legacy and traditional Arab Culture. This bustling city serves as the main gateway to Morocco and is well-known for its picturesque Medina alleys lined with Moorish buildings. From the world’s second-largest mosque to some of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in Morocco, there are plenty of amazing attractions on every corner of the city.

We will let you rest after a long flight and take you on a tour of Casablanca’s Jewish Neighborhood first thing in the morning.

Our Casablanca Jewish Heritage trip begins with a stop at some of the most well-known synagogues in the city, such as Beth El, Eim Habanim, and David Hamelekh, which are all situated in the Corniche neighborhood along the shore. Even though there are no longer any Jews living in Casablanca’s historic Jewish Mellah, it’s still an excellent spot to go and check out the kosher butchers.

The Jewish cemetery in the mellah is where we will make our next trip. Here, we will see lovely white stone markers with inscriptions in French, Hebrew, and Spanish.

The Museum of Moroccan Judaism, founded by the Casablanca Jewish Community in 1997, is home to a wide variety of religious, anthropological, and artistic items that highlight Jewish daily life. At the Jewish Museum in Casablanca, visitors may expect to view a wide variety of paintings and sculptures as well as Torahs and Chanukah lamps. If there is time, we’ll take you to the charming Casablanca Jewish Club. In the city, there are numerous conventional kosher bakeries and eateries, like Cercle de L’Alliance and La Truffe. We will depart from Casablanca and go to Rabat, the Moroccan capital.

No visit to Morocco is complete without spending a few hours in the country’s capital, Rabat. You’ll be glad to know that the city has a modest Jewish population, with one functioning synagogue and one kosher eatery. The Royal Palace and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V are only two of the fascinating historical sites that Rabat has to offer. We will find numerous authentic Moroccan trinkets in the old medina. In this area of the city, there is also a wonderful flea market.

Later on in the day, you’ll be traveling to Sale, a town renowned for its landmark Great Mosque and the Mausoleum of Sidi Ben Ashir. Numerous souks offering everything from jewelry and household goods to fresh food and spices can be expected.

The blue city of Morocco, Chefchaouen, is where we will stop next. This charming town, which is home to numerous old synagogues, was established in the fifteenth century as Jewish and Moorish settlers fled the Spanish Reconquista. The Medina, the Kasbah from the 15th century, and Utta El Hamam Square are the three most visited sights in the city. The city’s medina is a great place for leisurely strolls and offers the chance to purchase genuine, traditional mementos. The Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen is one of the most significant structures in the town and is popular with tourists due to its charming octagonal minaret.

The shrine of Rabbi Amram ben Diwane is the first place our knowledgeable guide takes us in the morning. It is one of the most important Jewish sanctuaries in Morocco and is situated in the tiny community of Azjen. When we get to Meknes, we’ll take you to the Jewish Quarter, which is renowned for its vibrant courtyard and winding streets. View the Greek and Hebraic inscriptions from the Christina era and be in awe of the splendor of Rabbi David Benmidan’s tomb.

Our tour guide will take you to view the well-known remains of Volubilis in the late afternoon. The basilica, the capitol, enormous columns, and a triumphal arch are among the magnificent Roman ruins that are dispersed over a number of acres of land. proceed to Fes.

The next stop on your Morocco travel itinerary is the lovely city of Fes. It should come as no surprise that we will be spending the full day here because it is one of the most well-known cities in medieval Jewish history. Our journey in Fes can begin with the city’s mellah, which was established back in the 15th century. Numerous Jewish saints’ graves, including the well-known Silica, are located in the adjoining Jewish cemetery. During our guided tour of the city, you will also see a variety of Jewish Heritage sites, including synagogues, universities, and mosques.
We will go to the picturesque village of Midelt before heading to the Sahara Desert. The hamlet, which is encircled by the magnificent Ayachi Mountain, is home to a gorgeous synagogue and the Kasbah Myriem Christian monastery. El Karma Couscous, another top-notch attraction, is where local village women congregate and plan a variety of top-notch programs. This is the place to go if you want to learn how to make hand-rolled couscous. Our agenda for the day includes a trip to the desert in the evening.

After breakfast in your riad, you can take a little exploration of the local area before the start of your camel ride; You will visit the Gnawa people – originally from Mali, Senegal, and Sudan- in their village Khamlia, where you will learn about their music and their lifestyle. later, we will drive in the desert area to meet nomad families to explore their way of life.

Today our lunch will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza). you will have the option also to visit the old city of Rissani – the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty – the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Rissani is surrounded by about 360 ksars (a fortified village with many towers) and has a big souk (an open market), held three times a week.

Once called Sijilmassa, this was the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Tombouctou in Mali. Here you’ll walk through the souk, selling spices, vegetables, and clothes. Drive back to the village of Merzouga. In the afternoon, you will ride your camel, guided by an experienced camel man to explore what is hidden in the middle of the highest sand dunes in morocco. Dinner will be served in front of the tent where you will spend the night.

Dadès Gorge, a striking scenery, is a wonderful addition to our Jewish Heritage Travel agenda. These lovely valleys provide some of Morocco’s most breathtaking scenery, including breathtaking vistas of the Dades River below. Additionally, you will pass by the well-known Rose Valley, which is located beneath the Central Atlas.
Skoura, one of many kasbahs along the route connecting Tafialet and Ouarzazate, was established in the 12th century. The striking Amerhidl Kasbah from the 17th century is the main draw for thousands of tourists that flock here each year. Along this road, there are a number of other kasbahs, including the Ben Amar, Ait Ben Abou, and Dar Ait Sidi el-Mati Kasbahs. Later on in the day, one of our tour guides will drive you to the tiny village of Arazan to see the Tarodaunt Synagogue, which is incredibly beautiful. One of Morocco’s best-kept secrets is this Adobe synagogue, which is adorned with stunning Amazigh embellishments.
Taroudant also referred to as “Little Marrakech,” is the next stop on our adventure vacation through Morocco. Explore the Maghrebi mystique-infused souqs and squares of Taroudant. The town’s medina is a wonderful starting point for a range of activities, including trekking, and has a more relaxed atmosphere than Marrakesh. Rest up in the evening before continuing on to Marrakesh, one of the tour’s highlights, which is where we’ll be stopping next.
Stepped in history, Marrakech is a lovely imperial city where remnants of Jewish life can be seen on every street corner. Marrakech once had a sizable Jewish population. The Jewish Mellah, Dar Si Sad Museum, Bahia Palace, and Menara Garden are just a few of the city’s attractions that you may visit by following one of our authorized tour operators. Visit the magnificent souks and artisan districts at the well-known Djemaa El Fna square. It is also worthwhile to visit the Jewish cemetery where the remains of Rabbi Mordekhai Ben Attar and Rabbi Hanania Hacohen are interred.

The fishing town of Essaouira is the final stop. This charming town, known for its Jewish and Portuguese heritage, is peppered with hand-painted yellow, white, and blue houses and is home to numerous intriguing woodworking shops and art galleries. You’ll see that the Star of David is still prominently displayed over many of the area’s vibrant homes’ entrances.

Numerous Jews travel to Essaouira for the annual pilgrimage to the grave of renowned Rabbi Haim Pinto in September. The most significant landmarks in this seaside village of Essaouira are the synagogue and the residence of Rabbi Haim Pinto.
